Cozy Alcove Game & Reading

This alcove off of the upstairs hallway was converted into a game room and reading space for the homeowners—and for their granddaughters when they visit. The previous blog posts show the bedrooms and office for this floor.  I love the contrasting wood game table by Century and the fabulous original art from a famous artist in Corona Del Mar, CA.

Instead of specifying a cushion for the reading nook, I threw in a couple of cozy rugs and pillows so the girls can rearrange.  The opening to the downstairs family room was closed up and shiplap was installed in the entire space.  I made a linen backdrop with a rod top and rod bottom for easy removal.

My favorite part of the space was the custom acrylic shadow box to house the homeowners mother’s handkerchief collection—so special for her memories of her late mother.

The coastal theme is continued in this space by using shiplap, colors of aqua, green, teal & cream, and contrasting elements for interest.
